The New Zealand Property Group (NZPG) was launched in 2001 and became a registered
society in April 2004.
MEMBERS
Property developers recognised the benefits of getting together in early 2001
when the building industry suffered a major setback and the property market was
generally lacklustre. There were frustrations over the Resource Management Act
that many of them were suffering independently. So a group consisting of developers,
investors and solicitors was formed that represents a major portion of the property
industry in New Zealand. It is conservatively estimated that members have contributed
$8 billion to the New Zealand economy in completed projects which provides thousands
of jobs and the associated flow of work to contractors such as financiers, solicitors,
accountants, quantity surveyors, engineers and architects.
PURPOSE
The group lobbies government, local councils, banks and financiers, etc, about
causes that they identify as common problems or issues (usually to all members)
needing addressed. They invite key industry experts, such as high-level business
people, and politicians to address the Group. To date, the media has shown a
healthy interest, seeking comment on topical issues such as leaky homes, development
levies, and changes to the definitions of associated persons.
FORMAT
The Group has a committee consisting of developers, solicitors and a co-ordinator.
It holds an annual general meeting and meets periodically as required. It is
administered by Knight Coldicutt commercial property and business law specialists.
